Two simple breathing techniques – triangular breathing and square breathing

Breathing is essential. It is part of life. When we get stressed our breathing tends to get short and shallow. To prevent this or just to relax, here are two very simple breathing techniques.

Triangular breathing and square breathing techniquesTriangular breathing

Take a breath, inhaling for 3 seconds. Hold your breath for 3 seconds. Breathe out for 3 seconds. Repeat this for 10 cycles. When you get more used to this breathing technique you can increase the time to inhale, hold and exhale for 5 seconds each.

Square breathing

Square breathing is the same as triangular breathing, but with an extra hold. Inhale for 3 seconds, hold your breath for 3 seconds, exhale for 3 seconds and hold on empty for 3 seconds. As with triangular breathing, you can increase the time to 5 seconds when you feel comfortable doing so.
